Everything Mexico City

Mexico City is an incredibly vibrant and modern city full of art, culture, museums, rad architecture, green space, music, artisanal tacos, cocktails…in short, it is a ridiculously good time. Our vision for the pre-party party is something like this: we’ve put together some activities on Tuesday and Wednesday we think will be a blast in CDMX (Mexico City). They will help you get to know the city and other guests better. There will also be some down/free time for you to do your own thing, and we’ll include our recommendations for how to fill that time.

To get in on the whole shebang, you should plan to fly into Mexico City on Tuesday, May 3rd. We hope you’ll be able to join for everything, but totally understand if you want to partake in some of the million other activities CDMX has to offer, or can’t come in until later in the week-or can’t come at all! We get it! We will celebrate with you in spirit!

Transportation Options

Flights: There are direct flights from lots of cities across the country into Mexico City. We recommend setting up an alert from your city to Mexico City, and watching for deals when then come around.

Ground Transportation:  Once landed and clear of Customs, there are plenty of yellow taxis that can be reserved right at the airport, and there is free airport wifi that can be used to call an Uber or DiDi (DiDi is just like Uber but cheaper with more drivers around Mexico!!) Ride share apps like these are both safe and very cheap in Mexico City, and we highly recommend them as a way to get around generally. But if you’re just arriving and want to avoid a little hassle, you may find it easier to approach an airport Taxi Booth with posted prices, tell them where you’re going, and let them take you.

There are also private car companies that will take you from the airport to your lodging in Mexico city and from Mexico City to Cholula. It’s a nice option to have a ride waiting for you at the airport, but takes a little more coordination before leaving and you’ll pay more for it. Here are some companies we’ve talked with that offer competitive rates.

Lodging Recommendations

Mexico City is a very big city. You’ve got a ton of lodging options, from the major chains to boutique hotels, to hostels and everything in between. In our time in Mexico City, we have really really loved staying in Airbnbs. It’s easy to find really cute spots for most price ranges, and it provides a unique experience in a space all your own. For that reason, we’re going to break down lodging in Mexico City by neighborhood and recommend you search for an Airbnb there. We will tack on a couple of major hotels in each neighborhood too, for those who want that option.

La Condesa/Hipodromo

We will be staying in an Airbnb in the neighborhood of La Condesa/Hipodromo. That doesn’t mean you have to, it’s just an fyi. The other neighborhoods we list will be walking distance. La Condesa is a dreamy, Art Deco filled, tree-lined, cafe-dotted gem of a neighborhood where you can walk, sip, chat, pet a dog, and feel like an local hanging out in the 1930s. We hope to run into you there!
Some hotels in the La Condesa:
Hotel Villa Condesa, FlowSuites, Parral 14 Boutique Hotel

Zona Rosa

Shut up! No you shut up! Zona Rosa is one of the cutest, happeningest neighborhoods around. Lively and iconic, it’s central plaza reminds us of Paris, with no shortage of cafes, bars, and eateries, you will not run out of side streets to explore, and restaurants to check out. If this sounds like La Condesa, it should, it’s right next door, just to the northeast. The neighborhoods are small and walking between them is maybe 5-10 minutes depending on where you’re staying.

Some hotels in Zona Rosa:
Hotel MX Reforma, Sheraton Mexico City, Galeria Plaza Reforma

Roma Norte

Roma Norte is a neighborhood overlapping La Condesa to the east and just south of Zona Rosa, so it’s easily walkable to both. It’s a super hip and lively spot with a lot of students, active nightlift, and it’s where we’re headed Tuesday night to party it up at Pulqueria Los Insurgentes. The only thing to watch out for here is your appetite…there is a LOT of good food around and it is REALLY hard to make decisions.

Some hotels in Roma Norte:
La Valise, Stanza Hotel, Maison Salamanca

SCHEDULE of GROUP OUTINGS in CDMX

Tuesday May 3, 2022 evening we are planning on meeting up at a Pulqueria Insurgentes (a bar that serves pulque)  to mix, mingle and talk about our adventures in traveling to Mexico City and how cute our Airbnb’s are. We’ll be there from 6-9pm for sure, and maybe later but we also get tired pretty early these days so no promises.

Wednesday May 4, 2022 will be a day of gondolas (nothing wild, Blair gets seasick easily and this does not phase her), dining, drinking and revelry along the canals of Xochimilco. Info below.

Thursday May 5, 2022 Will be a free morning and afternoon to travel the 90 minutes from Mexico City to Cholula, Puebla and celebrate Cinco De Mayo. That evening, join us at Jazzatlan to meet folks only coming in for the weekend.

Pulqueria Evening

 Tuesday May 3, 2022 6pm-9pm

Pulqueria Insurgentes: Av. Insurgentes Sur 226, Roma Nte., Cuauhtémoc 06700 Ciudad de Mexico

For folks arriving on Tuesday we’ll be gathering at a local pulqueria for a casual welcome drink. Our dream for this entire wedding is to get to spend time with our friends and family and for everyone to get to know each other and this magical part of the world. If you can’t make it, no worries, we just wanted to create a time and place to gather and begin the festivities. We figure Mexico is a long way to go, why not give a little more time and space to enjoy it.

Pulque is a lightly fermented 6%~ ABV beverage also known as the drink of the gods. It comes in many different flavors like guava, mango, coconut, strawberry and pineapple and it has an interesting texture. Don’t fret if that’s not on your list of things to try, the pulqueria also has other beverage options like water, beer and liquor.

xochimilco Adventure

  Wednesday May 4, 2022  10:45am – 5:00pm

Departure: We have busses! Everyone should meet at the intersection of  Ave. Nuevo Leon and Vicente Suarez St (just outside Cafebreria El Pendulo Condesa, near the southwest corner of Parque Mexico in Hippodromo) at 10:45am. Hot tip! The meeting spot is very near a delicious bakery called Maque if you’re looking for breakfast prior (they get crowded, go early).

Xochi bus meet

Together we will go by private bus to Xochimilco. There are different Embarcaderos (ports) to leave from, and our fleet will be leaving from Embarcadero de Nuevo Nativitas. Our boats will leave at noon. We tell you this because if you want to take your own transportation or you miss the bus, you may still find us there before we leave and catch the boat.

Canal Time – Bring an appetite! Once on our party boats we will be toured around the canals and along the way there are food and drink vendors that boat up and sell most anything you could want along with mariachis and other entertainment. We’ll also have a few drinks and light snacks on board. There will be several stops for bathroom breaks and sightseeing along the way. You can also BYO onto the boats, so if there’s anything specific you’d like to bring, feel free.

Exodus – Once the tour is over we’ll head back on the busses. There is a fun market at the embarcado, so we’ll give a little time to shop and then head back to town so folks can rest and get to the rest of their evening. Depending on traffic, plan to get back to CDMX around 6-6:30p.
